How does business car leasing work?
Business car leasing (also known as Business Contract Hire or BCH) works similarly to Personal Contract Hire (PCH), but instead of leasing as a private individual, you’re leasing as a business.
With business leasing, your company has access to brand-new vehicles for typically between 2 and 5 years, with an agreed mileage, in exchange for a fixed monthly payment. At the end of the contract, you simply hand the car (or van) back to the leasing company, with the option to start over with a new lease.
Leasing offers cost-effective access to new vehicles with low upfront costs, predictable monthly payments, and potential tax benefits, helping businesses maintain cash flow while avoiding the depreciation risks associated with ownership.
Can I get a business car lease if I’m self-employed?
Yes. Most business types are eligible for car leasing.
To lease a vehicle through your business you’ll need to be one of the following:
- Sole trader
- Limited Company
- Public Limited Company
- Partnership
- Limited Liability Partnership
- VAT-registered and non-VAT-registered companies
- Charity
However, there are some exemptions, such as taxi companies. Finance is subject to status, application and necessary credit acceptance.
Does a business car lease include insurance?
No. When you lease a car, it’s your responsibility to get insured. Car insurance is a legal requirement for all drivers, so you should budget for this when considering leasing a vehicle. Make sure your chosen policy specifically covers business use, to ensure that you have adequate protection.
Should I lease or buy a car for my business?
Deciding whether to lease or buy a car for your business comes down to your financial goals and how you plan to use the vehicle.
Leasing can offer lower monthly payments, tax benefits, and the flexibility to upgrade to new models more frequently, making it ideal if you want to maintain cash flow and avoid the hassle of selling and vehicle depreciation.
On the other hand, buying might be better if you drive high miles, want to build equity, or prefer long-term cost savings.

What is an 03 number?
Ofcom introduced 03 numbers to give organisations a single, nationwide point of contact, without extra costs for consumers.
