A new Chinese car brand is continuing its expansion into the UK, and its latest model targets one of the fastest-growing segments of the electric car market.
The new Aion UT is an all-electric hatchback that combines a compact footprint with a spacious interior, generous standard equipment and up to 268 miles of electric range.
Priced from £28,950, the Aion UT will compete with a growing list of electric hatchbacks and compact EVs, including the Volkswagen ID.Polo, Renault 5, Renault 4 and MG4.
But while its price puts it among smaller electric cars, the UT is larger than many of them and offers a 440-litre boot, giving it the practicality of a larger family hatchback.

Who are Aion?
Aion is a Chinese electric vehicle brand owned by GAC, one of China's largest vehicle manufacturers.
The brand has only recently entered the UK market, with the Aion V SUV becoming its first model to go on sale here.
The UT will be Aion's second UK model and is designed to give the brand a presence in the increasingly competitive electric hatchback market.
While the UT has already been on sale in China, the UK version has been adapted for European and British roads. Aion says the car has received revisions to its springs, dampers, bump stops, and anti-roll bars, as well as calibration changes.
Aion UT price
The Aion UT will be priced from £28,950 in the UK.
Only one highly specified version will be available initially, meaning buyers won't have to choose between multiple trim levels and battery sizes.
The price includes a generous ownership package, which Aion calls the Great 8.
This includes:
- Eight-year vehicle warranty
- Battery warranty covering up to 125,000 miles
- Eight years of servicing
- Eight years of roadside assistance
- MOT tests covered until the vehicle is eight years old
The Aion UT is expected to be available to order from September 2026, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for October.
How far can the Aion UT travel?
The Aion UT is fitted with a 60kWh LFP battery, providing an official WLTP range of up to 268 miles.
That puts it in a competitive position against many similarly priced electric cars, while offering enough range to make the UT suitable for both everyday driving and longer journeys.
Unlike some rivals, the UT will initially be offered with just one battery option in the UK.

How quickly can the Aion UT charge?
Aion says the UT can charge from 30% to 80% in around 24 minutes, which adds up to approximately 134 miles of range.
The UT also comes with vehicle-to-load technology as standard, allowing the battery to be used to power compatible electrical devices.
A heat pump is also included, helping improve efficiency in colder weather.
How practical is the Aion UT?
One of the Aion UT's biggest selling points is its size.
At almost 4.3 metres long, it is larger than traditional electric superminis such as the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID.Polo, while still remaining shorter than many conventional family cars.
The UT has a generous 440-litre boot, while the rear seats can be folded in a 60/40 split to create additional luggage space.
For families, the UT is fitted with three Isofix mounting points: two in the rear and one on the front passenger seat.
Aion UT interior and technology
The Aion UT features a minimalist interior centred around a large 14.6-inch touchscreen. The system includes satellite navigation, Bluetooth, voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
A digital driver's display sits behind the steering wheel, while much of the vehicle's functionality is controlled through the central touchscreen.
The cabin also features a floating centre console and a mixture of leatherette upholstery and soft-touch materials.

This means buyers can add several higher-end features without having to move to an entirely different trim level.

The Aion UT is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 201bhp.
Aion quotes a 0–62mph time of 7.3 seconds, giving the UT performance that is more than adequate for everyday driving and motorway journeys.
