BYD recently revealed the Sealion 7 at the Paris Motor Show. It’s one of several new electric vehicles (EVs) the Chinese giant plans to launch in Europe next year.
The EV joins BYD’s growing line-up of ocean-themed cars, which already includes the Seal, Seal U, Dolphin and Seagull.

What does the BYD Sealion 7 look like?
The BYD Sealion 7 looks similar to its smaller Seal saloon sibling, featuring the same swooping lines, sharp boomerang headlights and stylish rear LED lightbar.
The SUV looks sleek and aerodynamic, with flush door handles, a sloping rear roofline and a short ducktail spoiler to complement the sporty look.
The new BYD Sealion 7 will compete against the popular Tesla Model Y once it goes on sale. The Chinese EV is 80mm longer, 5mm wider and 4mm shorter than its American rival.
What does the BYD Sealion 7’s interior look like?
Inside, the Sealion 7 showcases high-tech features and premium materials. It boasts a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen in the centre of the dash, like the setup found in the BYD Seal. The futuristic design also includes two wireless charging pads integrated into the centre console for added convenience.
The Sealion 7’s “blade” battery tech means the same number of cells can be squeezed into a smaller space, allowing for a slimmer battery pack and more interior space for passengers.
The same model in China is sold as the Sea Lion 07, featuring a virtual head-up display, front and rear heated seats and a large panoramic glass roof.
How fast is the BYD Sealion 7?
The BYD Sealion 7 will be offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive layouts. The most powerful model will achieve 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds. That’s 0.7 seconds slower than the fastest Seal and 1 second slower than the fastest Model Y.
How much range does the BYD Sealion 7 have?
The BYD Sealion 7 shares its e-platform 3.0 architecture with the Seal and is likely to feature the same 82.5kWh battery. This means we’d expect an electric range close to 350 miles.
BYD’s innovative “blade” battery technology and efficient heat pumps will come fitted as standard to increase range and extend battery life in cold weather. The Sealion 7 will also offer 230kW fast charging capabilities.
How much will the BYD Sealion 7 cost?
The entry-level Comfort RWD model starts at £44,990, offering excellent value in the electric SUV market. The mid-range Design AWD is priced at £49,290, while the top-spec Excellence AWD comes in at £57,290.
When will the BYD Sealion 7 go on sale?
According to BYD, sales of the Sealion 7 are expected to begin very soon, with first deliveries anticipated before the end of the year. This means European buyers won’t have to wait long to get behind the wheel of this exciting new electric SUV.
