BYD has expanded its UK line-up with something a little different. Meet the BYD Ti 7, a large plug-in hybrid SUV with a boxy design, seven seats and lots of technology.
With its upright stance, chunky wheel arches and rear-mounted spare wheel, the Ti 7 has the sort of rugged appearance usually associated with vehicles such as the Land Rover Defender and Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Underneath that tough exterior, however, it takes a different approach, combining a petrol engine with electric motors to deliver performance and the ability to complete many everyday journeys on electric power alone.
The Ti 7 is also one of BYD's most generously equipped models to date, which includes a large central touchscreen, heated and ventilated seats, a panoramic roof and an integrated refrigerator.
With UK prices starting at £47,995, it offers a compelling alternative for drivers looking for a spacious, distinctive family SUV.

What is the BYD Ti 7?
The BYD Ti 7 is a large, seven-seat SUV designed to combine family-friendly practicality with the styling and equipment of a more premium vehicle.
It is the first BYD model to arrive in the UK with the company's DM-p Super Hybrid powertrain, which pairs a turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors. It is also BYD's first seven-seat model for the UK market, giving it a different role from smaller vehicles such as the BYD ATTO 3 and SEAL U.
The Ti 7 has already been sold in China under BYD's Fangchengbao brand. For the UK, it wears the BYD badge and comes in a single, highly equipped Excellence AWD specification.
Its combination of seven seats, all-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid technology puts it in contention for buyers considering large family SUVs, particularly those who want something with a more rugged and boxy appearance.
What does the BYD Ti 7 look like?
The first thing you'll notice about the BYD Ti 7 is its design.
Unlike many modern SUVs, which favour curved bodywork and sloping rooflines, the Ti 7 has a distinctly squared-off shape. Its upright front end, flat-looking sides, prominent wheel arches and strong shoulder line give it a chunky appearance that looks more like a traditional 4x4.
The design draws comparisons with the Land Rover Defender, particularly around the proportions, contrasting exterior details and rear-mounted spare wheel. It also has some of the imposing presence associated with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, although the Ti 7 is considerably more focused on family practicality and plug-in hybrid efficiency.
The Ti 7 is a substantial vehicle measuring approximately 5,146mm in length, 1,995mm in width and 1,865mm in height, giving it plenty of road presence.
Chunky wheel arch extensions and 20-inch alloy wheels reinforce its rugged styling, while LED lighting and a modern front-end design help distinguish it from the traditional off-roaders it resembles.

How powerful is the BYD Ti 7?
Despite its rugged appearance, the BYD Ti 7 uses a plug-in hybrid powertrain designed to balance performance with everyday efficiency.
Its DM-p Super Hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with electric motors driving all four wheels. Together, the system produces 408bhp, and delivers a claimed 0–62mph time of 4.8 seconds.
That is quick for a seven-seat SUV of this size, giving the Ti 7 plenty of performance for joining motorways, overtaking and carrying a full load of passengers.
The system also allows the vehicle to operate on electric power alone, with the petrol engine providing additional flexibility for longer journeys. This means drivers can make use of electric driving around town without relying entirely on charging infrastructure for every trip.
A range of driving modes is available, including Eco, Normal and Sport, while additional terrain settings cater for conditions such as snow, sand, mud and mountain driving.
What is the electric range of the BYD Ti 7?
One of the most appealing features of the BYD Ti 7 is its claimed electric range.
The 35.6kWh Blade Battery provides up to 74 miles of electric-only driving on the WLTP combined test cycle. That is a substantial figure for a large plug-in hybrid SUV and could be enough to cover many daily commutes, school runs and local journeys without using petrol, depending on driving conditions.
As with any plug-in hybrid, the actual range will vary according to factors such as temperature, speed, driving style and how much equipment is being used.
When the battery needs charging, the Ti 7 supports AC charging at up to 6.6kW. It can also use DC rapid charging at up to 73kW, with a claimed charging time of around 18 minutes from 30% to 80%.
The petrol engine provides additional flexibility for longer trips, making the Ti 7 an option for drivers who want to use electric power for shorter journeys but aren't ready to switch to a fully electric vehicle.

What's the BYD Ti 7 like inside?
The Ti 7's interior is designed to feel more premium than you might expect from its price point.
The dashboard features a 10.25-inch digital instrument display for the driver and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen for infotainment and vehicle functions. Physical controls are also provided for selected functions.
There’s plenty of equipment, too. The standard specification includes leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, and heating and ventilation for the outer seats in the second row.
Three-zone climate control allows the temperature to be adjusted across the cabin, while an 18-speaker sound system provides the audio. There are also two wireless smartphone charging pads, each supporting up to 50W, so compatible devices can be charged without plugging in a cable.
One of the more unusual features is the temperature-controlled compartment between the front seats. It can be used to keep drinks and snacks hot or cold, adding a practical touch for family trips and longer journeys.
The overall design has a purposeful feel, with prominent grab handles and chunky detailing that echo the exterior. It is a different approach from the more minimalist interiors found in some electric SUVs, giving the Ti 7 a character of its own.
How practical is the BYD Ti 7?
With three rows of seating, the BYD Ti 7 is designed to accommodate larger families and drivers who regularly need space for extra passengers.
All seven seats are fitted as standard in the UK, making it a more practical option than many five-seat SUVs. The second row offers adjustable seating, while the third row can be folded away when it isn't needed.
Boot capacity varies considerably depending on how many seats are in use:
- 126 litres with all seven seats in place
- 970 litres with the third row folded
- 1,830 litres with the second and third rows folded
That gives the Ti 7 plenty of flexibility for everyday family life, from carrying shopping and school bags to making room for larger items when fewer passengers are travelling.
The vehicle's generous exterior dimensions also help create a spacious cabin, with room for passengers across all three rows. As with most seven-seat SUVs, the rearmost seats are best considered additional seating for occasional use, particularly for adults on longer journeys.
A side-hinged tailgate and rear-mounted spare wheel are part of the Ti 7's distinctive design. They contribute to its traditional 4x4 appearance, although drivers should consider whether the tailgate arrangement suits their parking space and how they typically load the boot.
Overall, the Ti 7 combines the imposing proportions of a large SUV with the flexibility needed for family duties.

What technology and safety features does it have?
The BYD Ti 7 comes with a generous level of standard equipment, extending beyond the screens and comfort features.
Technology highlights include the large infotainment touchscreen, digital driver display, wireless smartphone charging and an 18-speaker sound system. A digital key and keyless entry also make accessing the vehicle more convenient.
The car features a range of driver assistance and safety systems, including adaptive cruise control, intelligent cruise control, automatic emergency braking, electronic stability control and hill descent control.
There are also features intended to make family journeys easier, such as ISOFIX child-seat anchorages and controls for the rear climate system.
How much does the BYD Ti 7 cost?
The BYD Ti 7 starts at £47,995 on the road in the UK, with the Excellence AWD specification offering a high level of standard equipment.
That puts it in an interesting position in the large SUV market. It combines seven seats, all-wheel drive, plug-in hybrid power and a long list of comfort features at a price that sits below many established premium SUVs.
The BYD Ti 7 is available to order in the UK, with first customer deliveries expected from January 2027.
