Changan Deepal S07 Review: Price, Range & UK Specs of New Electric SUV Changan Deepal S07 Review: Price, Range & UK Specs of New Electric SUV

The Deepal S07 is an all-electric family SUV from Changan, a major Chinese manufacturer that’s now making its UK debut.

With a competitive price tag, a generous equipment list and a focus on comfort, the Deepal S07 is aiming straight at big names like the Tesla Model Y, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Skoda Enyaq.

So, who exactly is Changan, and what does the Deepal S07 bring to the table? Let’s take a closer look.

Who are Changan and Deepal?

While the name may be unfamiliar to UK drivers, Changan is one of China’s oldest and largest carmakers. They’ve been building cars since the 1980s and have steadily expanded their global presence ever since. In 2024 alone, Changan sold more than 2.7 million vehicles worldwide, underlining its scale and international reach.

The company has also invested heavily in European markets, opening a UK research and development centre in 2010, followed by an electric vehicle design hub in Munich. The brand also has a long-running design studio based in Turin.

Deepal, meanwhile, is Changan’s dedicated electric vehicle sub-brand. Launched in 2022 to drive its global EV strategy, it’s responsible for the Deepal S07 – the brand’s first model to arrive in the UK. Changan has committed to investing €2 billion in Europe by 2030, including plans to manufacture vehicles there.

From an ESG perspective, Changan positions itself as a sustainability-focused brand, investing in low-carbon manufacturing, battery recycling programmes and greener supply chain technologies as part of its long-term “Blue Core” and “Shangri-La” environmental strategies.

So, although the badge may be new to Britain, the company behind it brings decades of manufacturing experience, global infrastructure and serious EV ambition.

Design and styling

At 4.75m long, the Changan Deepal S07 is very much in the mid-sized family SUV category. Its styling blends clean curves with sharp, modern lines – think hints of Polestar, Lexus and Lotus. It might not reinvent the rulebook, but it certainly looks contemporary and upmarket.

Highlights include:

  • A slim, futuristic “cross-style” front fascia
  • A full-width rear light bar
  • Minimalist sculpting and flush details
  • Large 20-inch wheels as standard

Inside, the Deepal S07 really steps up its game. The cabin feels airy, modern and premium, helped by a huge panoramic glass roof and soft-touch materials throughout. A 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen dominates the dashboard that can swivel toward the driver or passenger at the touch of a button.

There’s no traditional driver’s display, but a crisp head-up display handles speed, nav prompts, and essential info.

Interior, space, and practicality

Designed with families in mind, the Changan Deepal S07 places a strong emphasis on rear-seat comfort. Back-seat passengers benefit from:

  • Generous legroom
  • Rear climate controls
  • A centre armrest with phone stand and cupholders
  • A button to control the panoramic roof blind

The cabin itself feels open and spacious, with plenty of room for tall adults to sit comfortably in the second row.

Boot space is 445 litres – competitive, though not class-leading, and a little shallower than some rivals. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 split but don’t slide, and there’s no seven-seat option.

There’s also a useful 125-litre frunk, ideal for stowing charging cables or keeping extra luggage separate from the main boot.

Battery, range and charging

The Changan Deepal S07 uses a 75kWh usable CATL battery, offering a WLTP range up to 295 miles. That puts it comfortably in the middle of the pack for mid-sized electric SUVs.

Charging capabilities include:

  • DC rapid charging up to 93kW (10–80% in around 45 minutes)
  • 11kW AC charging
  • An efficiency-enhancing heat pump
  • Vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices

Its rapid-charging performance isn’t class-leading, but the range and charging setup should cover typical daily commuting and family use with ease.

Performance and driving

The Changan Deepal S07 is powered by a 215bhp rear-mounted electric motor, resulting in a 0–62mph time of 7.9 seconds. It’s available in rear-wheel-drive form only, and offers a selection of drive modes that adjust throttle response:

  • Eco/Comfort: tuned for efficiency and smoother acceleration
  • Sport: delivers a sharper, more immediate response

The car features two levels of regenerative braking, both offering relatively strong deceleration, though not to the extent of full one-pedal driving.

Changan has revised the suspension for the UK and European market, making it firmer than the setup used in China.

Equipment and technology

This is one of the Changan Deepal S07’s biggest selling points. There’s just one fully loaded trim level, and it includes:

  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • 10-way electric driver’s seat
  • Panoramic glass roof
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • 10-speaker sound system (including headrest speakers!)
  • Over-the-air updates
  • Ambient lighting
  • Semi-autonomous driving mode
  • Voice control
  • 360° camera
  • Multiple quirky drive modes (Dog Mode, Camping Mode, Nap Mode… even a Smoking Mode that opens the windows)

Metallic paint and interior colour choices are all included in the price.

Price, warranty and UK availability

Buyers of the Changan Deepal S07 also get competitive pricing and solid warranty coverage:

  • Price: £39,990
  • Warranty: 7 years / 100,000 miles on the vehicle
  • Battery warranty: 8 years / 120,000 miles

Changan already has 20 UK dealerships, with plans to grow to 50 by the end of 2025 via established multi-brand retail groups.

Should you lease the Changan Deepal S07?

If you’re after an electric SUV that packs huge spec for the money, offers plenty of comfort, and brings something fresh to the market, the Deepal S07 is well worth a look. Its charging speeds and ride quality won’t suit everyone, but the value proposition is hard to ignore – especially when rivals with similar tech cost significantly more.

As more Chinese EV brands reach the UK, competition is only getting fiercer. The Changan Deepal S07 is one of the first examples showing just how serious these new players are.
