Chery Tiggo 9 Review: Price, Range & UK Specs of New Seven-Seat SUV Chery Tiggo 9 Review: Price, Range & UK Specs of New Seven-Seat SUV

Last week, I had the chance to get up close with Chery’s new flagship seven-seat SUV. The Tiggo 9 is one of the latest arrivals from China to reach the UK and represents Chery’s most ambitious model yet.

In this review, I’ll run through everything you need to know about the Chery Tiggo 9, including its design, size, technology, performance, and electric range – and how it stacks up as a family SUV for the UK market.

What does the Chery Tiggo 9 look like?

The Chery Tiggo 9 has a confident, modern design that leans firmly into the premium SUV bracket. At the front, the large grille features a distinctive 3D diamond-style pattern that gives the car plenty of road presence.

From the side, details like the 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels and flush door handles help keep things looking clean and contemporary. Around the back, a full-width LED light bar stretches across the tailgate, tying the design together nicely.

The car I saw was finished in Eclipse Black, which really suited the Tiggo 9’s sharp lines and gave it a more upmarket feel in person.

How big is the Chery Tiggo 9?

Space is one of the Tiggo 9’s biggest strengths. It measures 4,810mm long, 1,925mm wide (excluding mirrors), and 1,741mm tall, riding on a 2,800mm wheelbase.

That puts it in the same size bracket as large seven-seat SUVs like the Hyundai Santa Fe, and it’s noticeably bigger than more compact options such as the Peugeot 5008.

The Tiggo 9 comes with seven seats as standard, with an electrically sliding and reclining second row that makes it easier to balance legroom between the middle and third rows.

Boot space stands at 143 litres with all seven seats in place, which is fairly typical for a three-row SUV. Fold the third row down, and that expands to 819 litres, making it far more practical for everyday family use.

Inside, the cabin feels open and comfortable, particularly in the front and second row. The third row is best suited to shorter journeys or smaller passengers, but that’s the case with most SUVs in this class.

What tech does the Chery Tiggo 9 have?

Another standout feature of the Tiggo 9 is just how much technology comes as standard. There’s no complicated trim levels to worry about – Chery offers the car in a single, fully loaded spec.

Equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera system, front and rear heated and ventilated seats, front massaging seats, headrest speakers, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and more!

The dashboard is dominated by a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, which handles infotainment and climate controls, alongside a clean digital driver display. The setup is modern and uncluttered, and everything feels well integrated.

How much range does the Chery Tiggo 9 have?

Keeping things simple, the Chery Tiggo 9 is available with just one powertrain option. It uses a 1.5-litre “Super Hybrid” system, paired with three electric motors and a large 34.5kWh battery.

On a full charge, Chery claims an electric-only range of up to 91 miles, which puts it right near the top of the UK PHEV market. That’s enough for many drivers to cover daily journeys without the petrol engine switching on at all.

And when you do combine the battery with a full tank of fuel, the Tiggo 9 offers a total driving range of up to 650 miles, making it well-suited to longer trips and motorway driving without frequent stops.

The Tiggo 9 also supports DC fast charging at up to 71kW, allowing a 30–80% charge in around 18 minutes. It’s one of the few plug-in hybrids to offer Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) as well, meaning you can power external devices like laptops, tools, or camping equipment directly from the car.

How fast is the Chery Tiggo 9?

Performance is another area where the Tiggo 9 surprises. With its three electric motors – two at the front and one at the rear – the system produces a combined 428hp.

That’s more power than many expensive performance SUVs, and it allows the Tiggo 9 to accelerate from 0–62mph in just 5.4 seconds. For a large, seven-seat family car, that’s very quick.

There are also six driving modes to choose from – Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, Sand and Off-Road – allowing the Tiggo 9 to adapt to different driving conditions.

When is the Chery Tiggo 9 on sale in the UK?

The Chery Tiggo 9 is on sale in the UK now, available exclusively in the high-spec Summit trim. Prices start from £43,105, positioning it competitively against other large seven-seat SUVs with far fewer standard features.

Final thoughts

I came away genuinely impressed with the Chery Tiggo 9. It’s spacious, well-equipped, and delivers a level of performance and electric range that’s unusual for a plug-in hybrid SUV of this size.

It won’t be for everyone, but for families who want a seven-seat SUV with strong electric capability, modern tech and a premium feel – without stepping into luxury-brand pricing – the Tiggo 9 is a very compelling option.
