Specifications
At launch, there will be two versions available. The standard derivative has a rear-mounted electric motor that provides 282bhp and 545Nm of torque. This model has a 77kWh battery which allows drivers to go 340 miles on a single charge.
Cupra will also offer a performance VZ version of the Tavascan. This derivative has a dual-motor set-up that provides 335bhp and 679Nm of torque. However, with the same 77kWh battery, the boosted performance means that the range drops slightly to 321 miles.
The Tavascan VZ can go from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds and the battery can accept up to 135kW charging rates, allowing a 10-80% top-up in just 30 minutes.
Exterior
Despite being based on the same MEB platform as the Audi Q4 e-tron and Volkswagen ID.4, the Cupra Tavascan manages to forge its own distinctive appearance.
With the Born, and now the Tavascan, Cupra has developed a bold and aggressive styling language.
At the front, sharp headlights flow into the large black grille and bumper with big air vents. Alloy wheels ranging from 19 to 21 inches with performance tyres are available to add too.
From the side, you can see the Tavascan’s sporty coupe roofline dip down toward a full-width LED light bar. The Cupra logo at the rear glows red and the badge on the bonnet is illuminated.
Measuring 1,861mm wide and 1,597mm tall, the Tavascan is wider and lower than the Nissan Ariya which helps give the EV its stand-out sporty look. The Cupra is fairly long too at 4,644mm meaning it can hold 540 litres of boot space which is more than what you’ll get on the Ariya or Mustang Mach-e.
Interior & technology
As expected, bucket seats come fitted as standard in the front and drivers can choose between either a recycled textile or microfibre upholstery. Copper accents in the cabin are consistent with the Cupra image and ambient lighting sets the mood.
A 15-inch touchscreen is the largest on a Cupra model to date and the climate controls which sit below have finally been illuminated.
There’s also a 5.3-inch digital dash and a Sennheiser 12-speaker sound system.
Safety tech comes in abundance with predictive adaptive cruise control, lane assist, traffic sign recognition and fatigue detection all featuring.
Release date & pricing
Complete pricing and specifications are yet to be announced but based on similar vehicles, like the Volkswagen ID.5, starting prices for the Tavascan will likely be in the region of £55,000.
The Tavascan will arrive next year alongside the plug-in hybrid Terramar and a more affordable UrbanRebel model looks set to arrive in 2025.
