What is Denza?
Denza, BYD’s premium electric vehicle brand, is finally making its way to Europe. Initially launched as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza is now fully owned by BYD and represents the brand’s high-end offering.
While BYD has built its reputation with value-packed EVs like the Dolphin and Seal, Denza is aiming much higher. It targets the likes of Porsche, BMW, and Audi with a combination of sleek design, luxurious interiors, and impressive performance.
The Z9 GT will serve as the flagship model, leading Denza’s charge into Europe later this year. Engineers are fine-tuning the car specifically for European roads and regulations, signalling that BYD is taking this launch seriously.

The Z9 GT makes a striking debut as the first Denza model confirmed for a European launch. Its design is dramatic, with a low-slung, coupe-style silhouette that merges elegance with aggression.
A bold front end with sharp LED lighting gives it a futuristic look, while the elongated roofline and sporty stance hint at its high-performance ambitions. With its dynamic design, the Z9 GT is ready to challenge rivals like the Porsche Taycan and Audi RS6, offering a fresh alternative in the luxury performance segment.

Measuring 5,180mm in length, 1,990mm in width, and 1,500mm in height, the Z9 GT is slightly longer than a Porsche Panamera. Its extended 3,125mm wheelbase, wide track, and low centre of gravity all contribute to enhanced interior space and a confident, composed driving experience.

What does the Denza Z9 GT’s interior look like?

Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the Z9 GT’s triple-screen setup: a 17.3-inch central touchscreen, a 13.2-inch driver’s display, and another 13.2-inch screen for the front passenger. To complete the luxurious atmosphere, a 20-speaker Devialet sound system ensures every occupant enjoys high-end audio.
How fast is the Denza Z9 GT?
The Denza Z9 GT will offer both plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric powertrains, each delivering impressive performance.
The PHEV variant, known as the Super DM, combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with three electric motors, producing a total output of 858bhp. This setup propels the car from 0-62mph in just 3.6 seconds, with power delivered individually to each rear wheel for maximum grip and control.
The fully electric version ups the ante, with a tri-motor setup delivering 1,024bhp. It cuts the 0-62mph time even further, reaching it in just 3.4 seconds.
Additionally, the Z9 GT features rear-wheel steering and crabwalk capability, allowing the car to move diagonally at low speeds. This unique feature, typically found in high-end off-roaders, could prove invaluable for navigating tight parking spaces or narrow city streets.
How much range does the Denza Z9 GT have?
Denza doesn’t skimp on battery technology. The plug-in hybrid version of the Z9 GT comes equipped with a substantial 28.5kWh battery, offering an electric-only range of up to 125 miles – well above the average for most PHEVs. Once the battery is depleted, the petrol engine can still deliver up to 42mpg, according to Denza.
The fully electric version steps up the game with a 100kWh BYD Blade battery, featuring advanced cell-to-body technology. This setup provides a claimed range of up to 391 miles (WLTP) and supports ultra-fast 800V charging at speeds up to 270kW, reducing charging times for long journeys.
How much will the Denza Z9 GT cost?
Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but considering its premium positioning, performance, and luxury features, the Z9 GT is expected to start from £80,000 or more.
This puts it on par with other electric grand tourers like the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Mercedes EQE. Denza aims to show that Chinese EVs can not only compete with but potentially outperform Europe's established luxury brands.
When is Denza coming to the UK?
Denza is expected to arrive in the UK in late 2025 or early 2026, following its European debut earlier in the year. The brand was officially introduced to Europe at Milan Design Week in April 2025, where the Z9 GT made its first public appearance. BYD has confirmed plans to roll out Denza across key European markets, with the UK firmly on the roadmap.
While the Z9 GT is currently grabbing the headlines, there’s no guarantee it will be among the first cars available to British buyers. Expect more details, including pre-order timelines and full UK specs, to be revealed in the coming months.
