The DS No8, pronounced “number 8” like Chanel No5, is an all-electric coupe SUV that signals a fresh naming strategy for the French luxury brand. Here’s what we know so far.

What does the DS No8 look like?

The DS No8 adopts a fastback coupe SUV design, comparable to the Peugeot 408, Polestar 4, and BMW iX2. It features a longer, sleeker profile than a traditional SUV, paired with a raised ride height and a sweeping rear roofline.

This model introduces DS’s new design language, inspired by the 2020 DS Aero Lounge concept. The No8’s elegant styling includes thin, wraparound headlights, blade-shaped daytime running lights, and sharp, angular lines.

The front showcases a blanked-off grille, with higher trims featuring a Luminascreen grille and illuminated DS badge. Top-tier versions also come with a striking two-tone bonnet.

How big is the DS No8?

The DS No8 measures 4,820mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,580mm in height, offering seating for five and a spacious 620-litre boot.

It uses the same Stellantis STLA Medium platform used on the Peugeot 3008 and the Vauxhall Grandland, though the No8 is much longer and lower than these more traditionally shaped SUVs.

This added length means there’s lots of interior space for passengers. Despite the sloping rear roofline, narrow front seats and a full-length glass roof help to create an open, airy environment.

The 620-litre boot is particularly impressive. There are also pockets for smaller items and a storage compartment beneath the floor for charging cables.

What does the DS No8’s interior look like?

The DS No8 makes a bold statement with its interior, setting itself apart from rivals in the premium SUV segment and offering a distinct departure from anything else within the Stellantis Group.

Two trim levels, Étoile and Pallas, are offered along with five cabin material packages featuring aluminium, leather, and Alcantara. These premium finishes, paired with an eight-colour ambient lighting system, create an inviting atmosphere.

A unique design element is the integration of exterior blade light bars into the door panels, doubling as handles. Up front, an X-shaped steering wheel complements a 16-inch infotainment screen that spans the dashboard.

A two-tier centre console includes a floating upper section with drive mode controls and a wireless charging pad, while the lower tier provides storage and padded knee support.

Even the entry-level model boasts leather trim and aluminium accents, reinforcing the No8’s premium positioning.

How fast is the DS No8?

The DS No8 is available in three powertrain options, each delivering a blend of performance and efficiency.

The base front-wheel-drive model features a 74kWh battery producing 227bhp. An overboost function adds an extra 30bhp in short bursts, raising the output to 257bhp. This version accelerates from 0-62mph in 7.7 seconds and has a top speed of 118mph, which is shared across the range.

The FWD High Range model uses a larger 97.2kWh battery, increasing power to 242bhp (or 276bhp with overboost). The added battery weight slightly reduces its 0-62mph time to 7.8 seconds.

The flagship AWD Long Range model stands out with its all-wheel-drive, dual-motor setup. The intelligent system operates primarily in front-wheel drive during Eco and Normal modes, engaging the rear wheels as needed or providing full-time AWD in Sport and AWD modes. This configuration delivers 345bhp (370bhp with overboost), achieving a brisk 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds.

All models include regenerative braking with three intensity levels, controlled via paddles behind the steering wheel. A one-pedal driving mode is also available, allowing the car to come to a complete stop without brake pedal input.

Additionally, DS Active Scan Suspension uses cameras to monitor the road and adjust the suspension to smooth out bumps, enhancing ride comfort across all variants.

How much range does the DS No8 have?

Thanks to its aerodynamic design and 0.24Cd drag coefficient, the DS No8 offers impressive range across all variants.

The entry-level FWD model has a 74kWh battery for a 355-mile range, while the FWD High Range gets a 97.2kWh battery for a massive 466-mile range. The AWD Long Range gets the same 97.2kWh battery and a slightly shorter 426-mile range due to its extra motors.

Charging is equally efficient, with a 20-80% charge achieved in 27 minutes on a 200kW charger. The No8 maintains a steady 160kW charging rate between 20-55%, ensuring consistent speed over a longer period, unlike other EVs which charge fast in short bursts.

How much will the DS No8 cost?

Pricing for the DS No8 is expected to start around £50,000 for the base model, rising to £62,000 for higher trims. Positioned as a rival to the Tesla Model Y, BMW i4, and Polestar 4, the No8 marks DS’s push into a more premium market segment. Convincing buyers of its credentials will be key to its success.

When will the DS No8 go on sale?
