The DS SM Tribute has been created to mark 10 years since DS became its own standalone brand.
The new one-off concept car pays tribute to the stylish Citroen SM produced between 1970 and 1975. DS says it’s been designed as if the "SM had continued to develop over the past five decades”.
The original SM’s glass front grille has been transformed into a futuristic 3D screen on the new concept. The classic’s signature swivelling headlights have also been modernised into thin LED strips.
The SM Tribute is 1.1 inches longer and 5.5 inches wider than its predecessor, with the ground clearance lowered by nearly 1.4 inches to enhance aerodynamics. There are also small camera-based side mirrors mounted to the base of the A-pillars to improve airflow.
In place of the original’s modest 15-inch wheels, the new concept boasts imposing 22-inch alloy wheels with aero covers. The cutout in the rear fender pays homage to the removable wheel spats of the 1970s model.
Although the revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension from the original Citroën SM isn't featured, the car's iconic silhouette and bold 70s-inspired Gold Leaf paintwork perfectly capture the essence of the classic.
Inside, the connection to the original SM is subtle, with only the curved dashboard and seats faintly reminiscent of the 1970s icon. As a concept, it’s no surprise to see lots of high-tech screens, with virtually no physical controls. Even the square-shaped steering wheel integrates its own display, while a curved screen console features capacitive-touch buttons.
DS hasn't revealed the powertrain of the SM Tribute yet, although it's most likely an electric vehicle (EV). The original SM was powered by a Maserati V6, a product of Citroën’s ownership of Maserati between 1968 and 1975.
