Unveiled at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon, the NPX1 concept displays a range of performance enhancements and specialised tuning components from Hyundai's N Performance Parts division.
Moving away from the rally-inspired baby blue paint and red trim of the IONIQ 5 N, the NPX1 adopts a more assertive black exterior. The body has been transformed with the addition of a carbon front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and a rear wing spoiler.

Complementing these changes are lightweight carbon alloy wheels adorned with Pirelli P Zero tires. Behind these wheels, high-performance brakes and a lowered suspension contribute to the EV's enhanced capabilities.
The powertrain remains the same as the one on the standard IONIQ 5 N. This means the NPX1 has 601bhp plus an additional 40bhp that's available in 10-second bursts thanks to a dual-motor layout and 84kWh battery. This allows the performance EV to reach 62mph in just 3.4 seconds.
Inside, the car boasts track-ready racing bucket seats and Alcantara trim, emphasizing its commitment to performance.

Will the NPX1 concept reach production?
Although just a concept car, Hyundai indicates that the prototype parts showcased in the NPX1 will undergo further development for production, with plans for sales in 2024. These upgrades are expected to debut first on the IONIQ 5 N.
Joon Park, Vice President of N Brand Management Group, expressed Hyundai's vision, stating: “In 2024, Hyundai Motor Company will take a step forward as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era as demonstrated with the ‘NPX1’ concept model.
“Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customisation such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customisation for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community.”
The IONIQ 5 wasn't the only EV to get a performance upgrade at this year's Tokyo Auto Salon. Nissan revealed its first-ever performance electric SUV, read more here.
