The new Kia EV6 is finally here. The compact crossover was released in 2021 and was the brand’s first EV built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform.

Three years later, the family EV has received its first major update which sees the car get more range, new tech and a refreshed design.

Exterior & interior

The new EV6 adopts Kia’s latest design language, introduced on the Kia EV9 last year.

The front of the EV6 sports a cleaner look, highlighted by new C-shaped headlights and a wider grille that incorporates the flanked inlets. Other changes include a wing-shaped rear bumper, a tweaked rear full-width light bar and redesigned wheels.

More changes are inside, with an updated panoramic curved display that combines the digital instrument cluster with Kia's latest ccNC infotainment system. The latter has new software that provides built-in video and music streaming.

The steering wheel is squarer than before with more buttons, a fingerprint reader and a sensor to detect whether the driver’s hands are on the wheel. There's also an improved wireless charging pad.

Batteries & performance

The new Kia EV6 has a huge 84kWh battery, up from 77kWh. This change increases the range from 295 miles on a single charge to 307 miles – according to Korean battery testing.

The updated battery can charge faster too, going from 10-80% in only 18 minutes on a 350kW fast charger.

Drivers can choose between a single-motor, rear-wheel drive powertrain that outputs 226bhp or a dual-motor, four-wheel drive powertrain that outputs 321bhp.

Kia is yet to confirm whether there’ll be an upgrade to the 577bhp GT variant. The sporty Hyundai IONIQ 5 N shares the same platform, so a revamped GT could be on the horizon.

Release date

Deliveries of the new Kia EV6 will begin in Korea soon. The facelifted model is expected to go on sale in the UK before the end of the year.
