Who is Leapmotor?

Leapmotor might be a new name to many UK drivers, but it’s far from a start-up. Founded in 2015, the company has already built a strong presence in China, selling hundreds of thousands of electric cars across a wide range of segments.

The brand is now expanding into Europe through a partnership with Stellantis – the group behind household names like Peugeot, Vauxhall, Citroën, Jeep and Fiat.

This joint venture means Leapmotor cars will be sold and serviced through Stellantis’ established dealer network, giving buyers the reassurance of tried-and-tested infrastructure.

The rollout has already begun, with models like the C10 family SUV, the B10 compact crossover, and the T03 city car making their way to UK showrooms. The new B05 will slot into this growing line-up as the brand’s first electric hatchback for Europe, targeting value-conscious buyers who still want style, tech and solid range.

What does the Leapmotor B05 look like?

Revealed at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, the Leapmotor B05 is a sleek five-door hatchback that breaks away from the electric SUV crowd. It features frameless doors, flush-fitting handles, slim LED headlights, and a striking full-width rear light bar.

Described as a “sporty-looking hatch” by Leapmotor, the B05’s low, coupe-like roofline gives the car a more dynamic look than many family cars in this segment.

How big is the Leapmotor B05?

The Leapmotor B05 is a C-segment hatchback measuring 4,430mm long, 1,880mm wide and 1,520mm tall, making it one of the broadest cars in its class.

It sits on Leapmotor’s latest LEAP 3.5 platform and is roughly the size of a Vauxhall Astra or Volkswagen ID.3.

This means drivers should get a good amount of cabin space, while a 2,735mm wheelbase promises plenty of legroom for passengers.

What does the Leapmotor B05’s interior look like?

Inside, the Leapmotor B05 keeps things clean and modern, with a minimalist dashboard dominated by a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a smaller digital driver display.

Early previews suggest the cabin will offer generous equipment as standard, with features such as a panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera system, and ambient lighting likely on UK models.

Leapmotor is positioning the B05 as a gadget-friendly car, appealing to buyers who want cutting-edge tech without paying premium-brand prices.

How fast is the Leapmotor B05?

While full UK specs are yet to be confirmed, the Leapmotor B05 is expected to use a single 215bhp motor driving the front wheels. That should be enough for brisk performance in everyday driving, putting it on par with rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3 and MG4 EV.

Leapmotor hasn’t released acceleration figures, but the power output suggests a 0–62mph time of around 7 seconds.

How much range does the Leapmotor B05 have?

The Leapmotor B05 will be offered with two battery sizes: a 56.2kWh pack with a range of around 224 miles, and a larger 67.1kWh pack offering up to 260 miles (WLTP).

Charging speeds are impressive for the class, with up to 168kW DC rapid charging allowing a 10–80% top-up in under 30 minutes. AC charging up to 11kW will also be available for home and workplace charging.

How much does the Leapmotor B05 cost?

The Leapmotor B05 should go on sale in the UK in 2026, with prices starting under £30,000.

That puts it up against cars like the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4 EV, BYD Dolphin and Renault Megane E-Tech.

Crucially, production for Europe is planned at Stellantis’s plant in Zaragoza, Spain, meaning the B05 should avoid import tariffs and qualify for EV incentives such as the UK’s Electric Car Grant.
