Who are LEPAS?
LEPAS is a car brand from Chery International, the Chinese automotive group behind OMODA and JAECOO.
The brand focuses on design, technology and electrified cars. Its name combines “leopard” and “passion”, reflecting the animal-inspired styling used across its range.
The L8 launches the brand in the UK as a large family SUV, with smaller models planned to follow. A fully electric version of the L8 is also expected in 2027.
What does the LEPAS L8 look like?
The L8 has slim headlights, a wide front grille and sculpted bodywork, giving it a distinctive look without straying too far from the familiar family SUV shape.
At 4,688mm long, it’s slightly longer than a Toyota RAV4 but shorter than a Škoda Kodiaq. Its 2,800mm wheelbase also helps provide plenty of space for passengers.
What engine does the LEPAS L8 have?
The L8 pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and an 18.4kWh battery. The system produces the equivalent of 275bhp, with power sent to the front wheels through an automatic transmission.
It can accelerate from 0–62mph in 7.9 seconds, giving it plenty of performance for everyday driving and motorway journeys.
What is the electric range of the LEPAS L8?
The L8 can travel up to 56 miles on electric power alone, according to official WLTP figures. That could cover many daily commutes and local trips without using petrol, provided you keep the battery charged.
For longer journeys, the combined petrol and electric range is up to 745 miles.
The battery supports DC rapid charging, taking it from 30% to 80% in around 20 minutes under suitable conditions. You can also charge at home using a suitable charging point.
Actual range and charging times will vary depending on driving conditions, temperature and the charger used.

What's the LEPAS L8 like inside?
The L8 has a modern cabin with a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 13.2-inch central touchscreen. Wireless phone charging, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof with an electric sunshade are also included.
Both trim levels offer plenty of equipment, but the higher-specification Elevate adds more comfort features, including heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, a premium Sony sound system and multi-colour ambient lighting.
How practical is the LEPAS L8?
The L8 has five seats and a 507-litre boot, giving you plenty of room for shopping, luggage and family essentials. Fold the rear seats down and capacity increases to 1,314 litres.
Rear passengers benefit from generous legroom, and the reclining rear seats offer extra comfort on longer journeys.
What technology and safety features does it have?
Both L8 trims come with 10 airbags and a range of driver assistance systems, including:
- Autonomous emergency braking
- Emergency lane-keeping assistance
- Adaptive cruise control
- Intelligent speed-limit control
- Front distance monitoring
The Elevate adds front parking sensors, a 540-degree panoramic camera, advanced parking assistance and remote parking assistance. These features can make parking and manoeuvring easier.

LEPAS L8 Essence vs Elevate: What's the difference?
The L8 is available in two trim levels: Essence and Elevate. Both use the same plug-in hybrid powertrain, so the main differences are in the equipment.
Essence is the entry-level model, with 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, a panoramic sunroof, privacy glass, a 13.2-inch touchscreen, a digital driver display, wireless phone charging, rear parking sensors and keyless entry.
Elevate adds 20-inch alloy wheels, acoustic laminated front windows, active engine noise cancellation and a heated windscreen. Inside, it gains electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions, a Sony eight-speaker sound system, 256-colour ambient lighting, an in-car fragrance system and air purification.
It also adds a powered tailgate, front parking sensors, a 540-degree camera, advanced parking assistance and remote parking assistance.
How much does the LEPAS L8 cost?
The LEPAS L8 starts at £34,900 for the Essence, rising to £37,900 for the Elevate. These are the manufacturer's on-the-road prices; leasing costs will depend on the deal, contract length, mileage and initial rental.
