The Jaguar Type 01 has finally been revealed, marking the beginning of a completely new era for the iconic British car brand.
The all-electric four-door GT is the first production Jaguar built on the company's new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), with a dramatic design inspired by some of the brand's most famous cars from the past.
It also packs some serious performance, with up to 1,015bhp, 1,365Nm of torque and a 0–62mph time of just 3.2 seconds.
With prices starting from £130,000 and first deliveries expected in the second half of 2027, the Type 01 will sit firmly in luxury territory.
So, what do we know about the new Jaguar Type 01?
Jaguar Type 01 at a glance

A completely new Jaguar
The Type 01 is much more than a new model for Jaguar. It represents the first production car of the brand's complete reinvention.
Jaguar has been working towards becoming an all-electric luxury brand, with the Type 01 acting as the first production model of this new era.
The car has been designed from the ground up around Jaguar's new electric architecture, rather than adapting an existing petrol or Land Rover platform.
It's also the first production Jaguar to use the new JEA platform, which has allowed the company's designers and engineers to create a very different shape from the Jaguars we've seen in recent years.
Jaguar says the Type 01 name reflects this new beginning. "Type" connects the car to famous Jaguars from the past, while the "0" represents zero tailpipe emissions and the "1" signifies the first model of a new generation.

What does the Jaguar Type 01 look like?
The Type 01 looks very different from almost every other electric car on the road.
It's a long, low four-door GT with a huge bonnet, set-back cabin and dramatically sloping roofline. Jaguar says the proportions take inspiration from legendary models including the E-Type and XJS.
The Type 01 measures around 5.2 metres long and sits on huge 23-inch wheels, giving it an imposing road presence.
One of its most distinctive features is the unusually long section between the front wheels and the front doors. Jaguar calls this the "prestige gap", and it deliberately exaggerates the car's proportions to create a more luxurious and dramatic appearance.
At the front, the Type 01 features Jaguar's new "strikethrough" design, with slim lighting elements and a clean, almost grille-less appearance.
The rear follows the same minimalist approach, with slim horizontal lights and a clean tailgate design.
It's certainly a bold departure from the Jaguars that came before it – and one that is likely to divide opinion.
Jaguar appears to be embracing that. The company says it wants the Type 01 to create an emotional reaction rather than simply blend into the crowd.

How powerful is the Jaguar Type 01?
If the design wasn't dramatic enough, the performance figures certainly are.
The Type 01 uses three electric motors to produce up to 1,015bhp and 1,365Nm of torque. That gives it a rapid 0–62mph time of just 3.2 seconds. Jaguar says the car can also accelerate from 62mph to 112mph in just four seconds, while top speed is limited to 150mph.
The Type 01 uses intelligent torque vectoring to control the power delivered to each wheel, helping to improve traction and handling.
Despite the huge power output, Jaguar hasn't designed the Type 01 purely as a straight-line performance car. The company describes it as a Grand Tourer, meaning it is intended to combine strong performance with the comfort and refinement needed for long-distance driving.

How far can the Jaguar Type 01 travel?
The Type 01 uses a 118kWh usable battery and an 850-volt electrical architecture.
Jaguar is targeting an estimated WLTP range of up to 450 miles, although the final figure is still subject to homologation.
The company also quotes an expected EPA range of up to 400 miles, while sustained highway-speed range is expected to be up to 320 miles. That makes the Type 01 one of the longest-range electric cars currently planned for the luxury market.
Jaguar has also put considerable effort into aerodynamics. The Type 01 has a claimed drag coefficient of just 0.23, while active aerodynamic features help reduce drag and improve efficiency at higher speeds.
How quickly can the Jaguar Type 01 charge?
The Type 01's 850-volt electrical system allows for some seriously rapid charging, making the Type 01 a practical option for long-distance journeys.
It supports DC charging at up to 350kW, with Jaguar claiming that up to 200 miles of range can be added in around 13 minutes when using a suitable rapid charger.
Jaguar is also developing the car with AC charging in mind, including support for higher-powered three-phase charging.

What's the Jaguar Type 01 like inside?
The interior is just as unconventional as the exterior.
A large central spine runs through the cabin, dividing the interior into four individual spaces and creating a distinctive cockpit-like feel.
The design is deliberately minimalist, with Jaguar replacing many traditional physical controls with screens and touch-sensitive interfaces. The driver gets a large 24-inch OLED display, while a separate seven-inch touchscreen is used for functions such as climate and audio controls.
Jaguar has also focused heavily on materials and craftsmanship. The interior uses a combination of textiles, metal-effect finishes and carefully designed surfaces to create a more luxurious atmosphere.
There's also a full-width panoramic soundbar integrated into the dashboard, forming part of Jaguar's new immersive audio system.
The Type 01 is a four-door, four-seat GT, but its unusual proportions mean it has a 2+2 layout rather than the spacious rear accommodation you'd expect from a conventional luxury saloon. That might make it less practical, but Jaguar is clearly prioritising style, space and the feeling of being inside something special.

What technology does the Type 01 have?
The Type 01 has been designed as a high-tech flagship for Jaguar's new era.
Its large OLED display provides the main driver interface, while the seven-inch central touchscreen controls key functions.
The car also features a digital rear-view mirror, allowing the driver to use a camera-based view rather than relying solely on the traditional rear window.
Jaguar says more than 360 patent applications have been associated with the Type 01, highlighting just how much new technology has gone into the car.
The company has also worked to give the Type 01 a distinct driving character, with adaptive air suspension, active dampers, rear-wheel steering and a 50:50 weight distribution.
Four driving modes allow the character of the car to be adjusted, ranging from comfort-focused settings to a more performance-oriented Dynamic mode.

How much will the Jaguar Type 01 cost?
The Jaguar Type 01 will be one of the most expensive Jaguars ever sold. UK prices will start from £130,000, with orders opening in early 2027.
That places the EV in the luxury GT market, with the Type 01 competing for buyers who might also consider high-performance electric models from established premium and luxury manufacturers.
The price also reflects Jaguar's new positioning. Rather than trying to compete directly with mainstream premium brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar is aiming considerably further upmarket with its new generation of cars.

Where will the Jaguar Type 01 be built?
Despite Jaguar's global ambitions, the Type 01 is very much a British project.
The car has been designed, engineered and will be manufactured in the UK.
Production is due to begin at JLR's Solihull operations in 2027, with electric drive units and battery packs produced in Wolverhampton and pressed body panels manufactured at Halewood in Merseyside.
That means the Type 01 will bring together components and expertise from several parts of JLR's UK manufacturing and engineering network.
When will the Jaguar Type 01 be available?
Orders for the Jaguar Type 01 are expected to open in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries planned for the second half of 2027.
The Type 01 is also only the beginning of Jaguar's new product strategy. JLR has confirmed that Jaguar is being repositioned as its uniquely electric brand, sitting alongside Range Rover, Defender and Discovery within the wider JLR portfolio.
That means more new electric Jaguars are expected to follow the Type 01 as the brand continues its transformation.
