Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept Is a 1,360hp Electric Super Saloon

The electric revolution at AMG has officially begun. With jaw-dropping performance figures and technology lifted straight from Formula 1, the new Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept is more than just a design exercise – it’s a statement of intent.

Packing 1,360hp, next-gen battery tech, and a sleek four-door silhouette, this concept teases a bold electric future for AMG and a direct challenge to the Porsche Taycan.

The future of AMG

Officially dubbed the CONCEPT AMG GT XX, this high-performance EV doesn’t just preview a future model – it showcases a bold new chapter for Mercedes-AMG. A production version is expected to arrive in 2026, and while we can anticipate more accessible versions further down the line, this concept is all about proving what’s possible.

At its core are three axial flux motors and a high-voltage battery developed in partnership with Mercedes’ Formula 1 powertrain division in the UK. These compact yet potent motors were originally engineered by YASA, a British electric motor specialist now owned by Mercedes-Benz. Together, they deliver more than 1,000kW – or 1,360hp – making this one of the most powerful electric saloons ever imagined.

Its top speed is a blistering 224mph. And thanks to ultra-fast charging technology, the battery can add 250 miles of range in just five minutes.

Battery and charging tech

The AMG GT XX Concept isn’t just about outright speed – it’s also engineered for consistency and efficiency. Its new cylindrical cell battery design is unusually tall and slim, optimising both cooling and energy flow. This layout allows for sustained high performance and supports charging power of over 850kW at up to 1,000 amperes.

That’s made possible in part by Mercedes’ planned next-generation charging network, which will support these ultra-rapid charging rates. With the right infrastructure, recharging the GT XX could become as quick as refuelling a petrol car – a potential game-changer for EV adoption.

Advanced aerodynamics

At high speeds, aerodynamic drag is the greatest performance hurdle, and Mercedes-AMG has gone to great lengths to address it. The GT XX Concept has been sculpted with extreme aerodynamic precision. Highlights include a low-slung bonnet, sharply raked windscreen, angled side windows, and the absence of a rear windscreen – a design choice also seen on the Polestar 4.

At 300km/h (186mph), around 83% of the car’s energy is used just to overcome air resistance. That’s why even the 21-inch Aero Wheels serve a dual purpose. These forged aluminium wheels feature five movable blades that can close for maximum efficiency or open to channel cooling air to the brakes. Each blade is wirelessly controlled by Bluetooth-powered actuators that generate their own electricity.

Futuristic interior

Inside, the AMG GT XX embraces a stripped-back, motorsport-inspired design. The cabin is bathed in black, with structural elements and accents inspired by high-voltage cabling – a nod to the car’s electric DNA.

Two large displays dominate the cockpit: a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen, both ergonomically angled towards the driver. The glassy, seamless setup is clean and intuitive, avoiding the visual clutter often seen in premium EVs.

Tech highlights

Mercedes-AMG has also packed the GT XX Concept with standout features, such as:

• Exterior sound speakers integrated into the headlights, offering dynamic driving sounds while also enhancing pedestrian safety.
• A rear LED panel with over 700 RGB LEDs that can display messages, charging status, or even a glowing AMG logo.
• Active Aero Wheel blades that optimise drag, cooling, and performance – with wireless, self-powered control systems.

When will it arrive?

While still a concept, the AMG GT XX isn’t pure fantasy. A road-ready version is expected to debut in 2026, and it’s widely believed that this new electric super saloon will replace the current petrol-powered AMG GT 4-Door Coupe.

It won’t arrive with 1,360hp as standard, but more affordable (and less extreme) versions are sure to follow.

With rivals like the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT already well-established, Mercedes-AMG is setting its sights on becoming the new benchmark for high-performance electric saloons.
