These latest images of the upcoming MG Cyberster follow on from the EV’s launch at the Shanghai motor show last month. MG is planning an official launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer.
In a nod to the brand’s classic two-seater models, the new electric Cyberster maintains the defining characteristics of a traditional roadster, boasting a lengthy bonnet and a short tail. It’ll be the first new MG roadster since the release of the MG F in 1995.
The Cyberster features an electrically-folding fabric roof and a spacious cabin that’s helped by fitting the battery in the chassis. The rear of the vehicle showcases daring arrow-shaped taillights, that draw inspiration from the Union Flag. Scissor doors complete the roadster's stylish aesthetic.
Stepping inside the Cyberster, drivers will find a Tesla-style yolk steering wheel and an array of digital displays for a hi-tech driving experience.
Pricing for the Cyberster will range somewhere around £55,000 to £65,000 depending on whether you choose the rear-wheel-drive 309bhp version or the four-wheel-drive, twin-motor 536bhp version.
Leaked design information has also revealed various details about the EV’s size. The Cyberster will measure 4,535mm in length, 1,913mm in width, and 1,329mm in height.
While specific details regarding the battery pack remain undisclosed, MG claimed that the Cyberster concept had the potential to cover 500 miles on a single charge and accelerate from 0-62mph in under three seconds. However, it is reasonable to expect these figures to be slightly less impressive in the final production model.
The MG Cyberster is expected to be released in the summer of 2024. Although pricing and exact specifications have yet to be confirmed, this new electric roadster shows plenty of promise and will join the ever-expanding range of Chinese-built EVs that are beginning to enter UK markets.
