The highly anticipated 2025 Tesla Model Y, codenamed “Juniper”, has officially debuted on Tesla’s websites in China and Australia.
Production is taking place in Tesla’s state-of-the-art Shanghai Gigafactory, where right-hand models are also built for Australia and the UK. With the latest Model Y already on sale in Australia, it might not be long before we see this version arrive in the UK.
2025 Tesla Model Y design
The facelifted Model Y builds upon the features that made it the world’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2023 and the UK’s EV market leader in 2024.
The refreshed design takes styling cues from the recent Tesla Cybercab concept with its clean full-width light bar and smooth front bumper. The main headlights have been redesigned too, giving the 2025 model a sharper, more assertive look. There’s also a new front camera for the Model Y’s self-driving tech.
From the side, not much has changed. There are new aerodynamic wheels and a slightly longer body to improve efficiency. Everything else looks the same, including the Model Y’s signature swooping panoramic glass roof.
The back of the Model Y features redesigned C-shaped LED taillights and a reflective light bar that illuminates Tesla lettering below. There's also a hands-free automatic boot that reveals a spacious 2,130 litres of cargo space with the seats folded down.
Customers can now get the Model Y in Pearl White, Glacier Blue, Stealth Grey, Quicksilver and Ultra Red.
2025 Tesla Model Y interior
Tesla has introduced a range of subtle but meaningful upgrades to the Model Y’s interior, focusing on comfort and technology.
Rear passengers now have access to an 8-inch touchscreen to play games, watch videos, and control entertainment features. The central 15.4-inch touchscreen in the front remains unchanged.
The cabin quality has been enhanced with improved acoustic glass, softer-touch materials on the dashboard and doors, and the addition of new ambient lighting.
Unlike the recently updated Model 3, which replaced traditional turn signal stalks with wheel-mounted buttons, the new Model Y retains its conventional stalk lever in response to user feedback.
2025 Tesla Model Y batteries and performance
Tesla is currently offering two Launch Edition versions of the 2025 Model Y in China and Australia: a standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model and a Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model.
Battery sizes haven’t been revealed, but we do know that the standard RWD will have a 290-mile range, while the Long Range AWD gets a 342-mile range. The standard model also gets 170kW charging speeds and the Long Range gets 250kW.
In terms of performance, the standard RWD model accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range AWD model achieves the same in 4.3 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 125mph.
A Performance variant with even faster acceleration and sportier features is expected to join the lineup later in 2025.
2025 Tesla Model Y price
The new Model Y is already available in China and Australia, and UK pricing is expected to be competitive within the EV market. The standard RWD model is predicted to start at £43,000, while the Long Range AWD model will likely cost around £53,000.
