The Hyundai Tucson is getting a major makeover for 2027, with a completely refreshed design, more interior space and a host of new technology.

The new Tucson will continue to be offered with petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, giving buyers plenty of choice when it comes to powering Hyundai's popular family SUV.

It’s also grown in size, with a longer wheelbase and more boot space, making the new Tucson even more practical than before.

Set to arrive in the UK in spring 2027, the new model will face competition from SUVs such as the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and an increasing number of Chinese alternatives.

So, what's new on the 2027 Hyundai Tucson?

A bold new look for the Hyundai Tucson

The new Hyundai Tucson gets a much more distinctive design, with sharper lines and a more muscular appearance than the outgoing model.

At the front, Hyundai has introduced its latest 'H-Edge' lighting design, with the daytime running lights integrated into the grille. Higher-spec versions feature up to 25,600 individual LED pixels.

The rear also gets a new look, with 'Prism' tail-lights giving the Tucson a distinctive lighting signature.

Hyundai says the design has been inspired by its 'Art of Steel' design philosophy, with pronounced creases and sharper edges intended to give the SUV a more confident appearance.

How big is the new Hyundai Tucson?

The new Tucson measures 4.56 metres long, making it 35mm longer than the outgoing model. It’s also 35mm wider and 20mm taller, while the wheelbase has been extended by 40mm.

The rear doors now open to 83 degrees, making it easier to get in and out of the car and helping when fitting child seats.

Rear passengers also benefit from increased head, leg and shoulder room, while the rear seats can recline and slide forwards or backwards on certain versions.

How much boot space does the new Tucson have?

Boot space has increased significantly in the new Hyundai Tucson.

The standard boot offers 695 litres of space, which is 79 litres more than the outgoing model. With the rear seats folded, that figure increases to 1,910 litres.

The sliding rear seats can also be moved forwards to prioritise boot space or backwards to give passengers more legroom. This should make the new Tucson an even more practical choice for families who need plenty of room for passengers, shopping and luggage.

What's the new Hyundai Tucson like inside?

The biggest changes to the new Tucson can be found inside the cabin. Hyundai has redesigned the dashboard with a cleaner layout, soft-touch materials and a large central touchscreen.

The dashboard layout is similar to the one introduced in Hyundai's new electric models, with a low-set steering wheel and a high-mounted digital instrument display.

The driver gets a slimline 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster, while the central infotainment screen is available in either 12.9 inches or 17 inches, depending on specification.

The system runs Hyundai's new Android-based Pleos Connect software, with AI-enhanced voice recognition and access to connected services and third-party apps.

Unlike some modern cars that rely almost entirely on touchscreen controls, Hyundai has retained physical switches beneath the central display for frequently used functions.

Other technology includes four 100W USB-C ports, two 15W wireless charging pads, a smartphone-operated digital key and an optional 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system.

The new Tucson can also be fitted with interactive ambient lighting that extends across the dashboard and into the doors.

What other features does the new Tucson have?

Hyundai has focused heavily on making the new Tucson more practical and comfortable for everyday use.

One of the more unusual features is a heated windscreen with a metal coating. Hyundai says it can fully de-ice the windscreen in around 15 minutes during cold weather.

The same technology is designed to help keep the cabin cooler in hot conditions, potentially reducing the amount of work required from the climate control system.

There is also an 'AddGear' system that allows passengers to attach accessories such as phone holders, tablet mounts and other items to the rear of the cabin.

A built-in umbrella holder in the front doors and integrated rear cupholders are also designed to make everyday life a little easier.

What engines are available in the new Hyundai Tucson?

The new Hyundai Tucson will continue with a choice of petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The entry-level model uses a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 148bhp. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic version is also available with a 48V mild-hybrid system, while four-wheel drive will be offered on selected versions.

For drivers looking for better efficiency, the Tucson Hybrid combines the same 1.6-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to produce 242bhp and 380Nm of torque. The Hybrid uses a six-speed automatic gearbox and can be specified with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

The most powerful option is the new plug-in hybrid Tucson, which uses a larger 17.1kWh battery and an upgraded electric motor. It produces 288bhp and offers an estimated electric-only range of up to 50 miles, making it possible to complete many everyday journeys without using the petrol engine.

What is HEV Stay Mode?

One of the new features introduced for the 2027 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid is HEV Stay Mode.

This allows selected functions, including the climate control, audio system and device charging, to continue working while the petrol engine is switched off.

It's a small addition, but one that could make the Tucson Hybrid more comfortable and convenient for longer journeys.

What technology and safety features does the new Tucson have?

The new Tucson will come with a comprehensive range of Hyundai SmartSense driver assistance technology. This includes the latest version of Highway Driving Assist, along with navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.

Another interesting addition is a redesigned driver attention monitoring system. Rather than being mounted on the steering column, the camera is positioned around the rear-view mirror, allowing it to monitor both the driver and front passenger.

As well as checking driver attention, the system can identify situations such as a passenger sitting incorrectly or failing to wear a seatbelt.

The new Tucson also features a system designed to remind drivers if a child has been left in the rear seats after the vehicle has been parked and locked.

How much will the new Hyundai Tucson cost?

Hyundai has not yet confirmed UK pricing or the final specification and trim levels for the new Tucson.

The current Tucson starts from just under £31,000, so a slight increase in price is expected when the new model arrives.

Several versions are expected to remain below the £40,000 luxury-car VED threshold, although official UK pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.

When will the new Hyundai Tucson be available in the UK?

The new Hyundai Tucson is expected to arrive in the UK in spring 2027.

The European version will be slightly shorter than the Tucson sold in some other global markets, but it will still be larger than the outgoing UK model.

With more space, a larger boot, updated technology and a choice of petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, Hyundai is clearly aiming to keep the Tucson competitive in the increasingly crowded family SUV market.

The new model will go up against established rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai and Kia Sportage, as well as newer competition from brands such as Jaecoo and BYD.

With its bolder styling and increased practicality, the new Tucson will be an interesting option for drivers looking for a versatile family SUV when it arrives in the UK.
