The new hybrid MG was unveiled at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show, more than a decade after the last generation was launched. The MG3 is the British marque’s smallest model and it’s hoped that this latest offering will shake up the supermini segment.
Specifications
At launch, there’ll be two versions of the MG3 available: SE and Trophy, both boasting an all-new Hybrid+ powertrain.
This cutting-edge hybrid configuration combines a 101bhp 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 1.83 kWh battery and a 100kW electric motor. There’s a combined power output of 192bhp and 250Nm of torque, making the supermini more potent than its Yaris and Clio rivals.
MG’s electrified tech also means that the MG3 is the fastest accelerating hybrid in the B-segment. The car can complete a 0-62mph sprint in just 8 seconds.
Despite its enhanced power, the MG3’s efficiency remains impressive. The hybrid offers up to 64mpg and C02 emissions of 100g/km, which is a substantial improvement over its predecessor.
In EV mode, the hybrid’s 1.83kWh battery will allow drivers to cover short distances with the engine off. There’s also a Series driving mode which allows the engine to function as a generator. MG has confirmed that a full petrol option will be available later down the line.
Exterior
A large grille that dominates the face of the vehicle is flanked by striking air intakes on either side. Sharp and pointed LED headlights sweep back to complete a fierce front-end look.
Down the sides, are bold flowing curves which lead on from the top of the headlights. The shape of the MG3 closely mirrors the aesthetics of the brand’s other electric models.
This latest iteration of the MG3 is both wider and longer than previous models. There’s now even more space for passengers as well as a larger 293-litre boot.
In the UK, six paint schemes will be available to customers: Arctic White, Battersea Blue, Dynamic Red, Black Pearl, Monument Silver, and Hampstead Grey.
Interior & tech
Inside the cabin, practicality meets sophistication, with an array of physical controls conveniently positioned beneath the touchscreen and on the steering wheel to minimise distractions.
Just like the MG4, the inside of the MG3 features two floating displays. A seven-inch digital instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel and a 10.25-inch touchscreen takes centre stage on the dashboard – both come as standard.
Additional standard highlights include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, sat-nav, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and four USB charging ports. The higher spec option provides leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats, heated steering wheel and a 360-degree parking camera.
Pricing
With all the new tech and hybrid advancements, don’t expect this new MG3 to be as cheap as its predecessor.
UK pricing will be officially announced in March and this latest model will likely have a starting price around the £18,000-20,000 mark.
