Mock-ups of the MINI Urbanaut have existed for quite some time, but the MPV concept has now taken a step closer to becoming a reality with the unveiling of a full-scale physical model.

This futuristic people mover previews many aspects of the manufacturer’s next-generation, all-electric models that will arrive from 2023.

According to MINI the Urbanaut is built to near prototype standards and is driveable.

The concept is fully electric and includes autonomous technology whilst showing off MINI’s ability to maximise space for small, compact cars.

The Urbanaut has a very interesting shape. It is slightly longer than the existing Countryman and significantly taller too. The grille and headlights do however manage to retain MINI’s iconic styling.

The centrepiece of this vehicle though is its interior. A full-length sliding door on the passenger side is the entry for all passengers. When stationary the interior has been created to feel like a lounge, with rotating seats, a fixed table and a windscreen that opens outwards. The dashboard can even double up as a bed.

Your MINI experience can be changed depending on which setting the Urbanaut is in. ‘Chill’ creates a relaxing environment with soft lighting, ‘Vibe’ opens the door and windows to create a social space and ‘Wanderlust’ focuses on the driving experience - this allows drivers to engage a fully autonomous mode if they’d like.

Almost all of the materials used in the interior of the Urbanaut have been recycled, or can be easily recycled at the end of the vehicle’s life.
