The Nissan LEAF was one of the first mass-market electric vehicles when it launched in 2010. With over 700,000 units sold and more than 17 billion miles driven, it helped pave the way for the EV movement.
Now, after a year out of production, Nissan is reinventing the LEAF as a sleek, high-tech crossover. Here’s everything we know so far about the all-new Nissan LEAF.
What does the new Nissan LEAF look like?
The next‑generation LEAF will adopt a coupe‑inspired crossover silhouette, moving away from its traditional hatchback shape.
Prototypes and concept images suggest a strong resemblance to the Nissan Chill‑Out Concept, showcasing a flowing roofline, slim LED lights, and an aerodynamic profile.
The new model is expected to feature 19‑inch alloy wheels, flush door handles, and a panoramic electrochromic glass roof. With a markedly improved drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd, the new LEAF promises far better aerodynamic efficiency than its predecessor.

What platform will the new Nissan LEAF use?
Underpinning the new LEAF will be the CMF-EV platform, which also supports the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech. This modular EV architecture enables improved battery packaging, enhanced handling, and better weight distribution.
Unlike the Ariya, which is available with all-wheel drive, the new LEAF is expected to stick with a front-wheel-drive configuration initially. However, thanks to its new platform and more refined chassis, performance and comfort should see a noticeable improvement over the outgoing model.
How much range does the new Nissan LEAF have?
Range is expected to take a significant leap forward compared to the current model. Nissan has hinted at a potential WLTP range of over 370 miles for the top-spec version, depending on final battery configurations.
While exact figures are still to be confirmed, this would represent a massive upgrade over the existing LEAF, which tops out at just over 200 miles in real-world conditions.
Two battery sizes are likely to be offered: one around 65kWh and another closer to 90kWh, both benefiting from improved thermal management and efficiency thanks to the CMF-EV platform.
Charging speeds are set for a major upgrade, too. The new LEAF will drop the outdated CHAdeMO connector in favour of the more widely used CCS standard, with 200kW fast charging expected in the UK and Europe. This could enable a 10–80% top-up in as little as 30 minutes when using a high-powered DC charger.
How fast is the new Nissan LEAF?
While official performance figures haven’t been confirmed, the new Nissan LEAF will be significantly quicker than the outgoing model. Thanks to its all-new CMF-EV platform and more advanced electric motor technology, early reports suggest it could achieve 0–62mph in around 7 seconds in its standard guise, with more powerful variants surpassing 6 seconds.
This would put it firmly in line with rivals like the Kia EV6 and Volkswagen ID.4, and far ahead of the current LEAF, which takes over 7.5 seconds in its fastest form.
Although it’s unlikely to be positioned as a performance EV, Nissan may offer dual-motor all-wheel-drive variants in the future, possibly under the e-4ORCE branding already used on the Ariya.

What is the new Nissan LEAF interior like?
Nissan has yet to reveal official interior images, but it’s widely expected to mirror the Ariya’s cabin. That means a minimalist dashboard, a large Google-powered infotainment display, and a digital driver’s display.
Higher trims are likely to feature ambient lighting, premium finishes, and sustainable upholstery choices.
Despite the coupe-style roofline, the crossover body should improve boot space and rear headroom compared to the current LEAF.
When is the new Nissan LEAF coming out?
Production of the all-new LEAF will take place at Nissan’s Sunderland plant in the UK, with sales set to start before the end of 2025.
The LEAF’s return marks a key moment in Nissan’s electric future. It will be followed by the electric Micra and Qashqai in 2026, and an all-electric Juke and city car in 2027.
The new LEAF will play a central role in Nissan’s wider electrification strategy and reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to UK-based EV manufacturing.
How much will the new Nissan LEAF cost?
While pricing hasn’t been confirmed, the move to a larger platform and significant tech upgrades suggest a starting price of around £40,000.
Higher-spec versions with the larger battery and additional features could exceed £50,000, positioning the LEAF alongside competitors like the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4, and Kia EV6.
That said, Nissan has a strong track record for offering value, so the entry-level versions are likely to remain competitively priced within the expanding EV crossover segment.
