Expected to arrive this spring, this all-new Tiguan R runs the latest 2.0-litre powertrain from Volkswagen, resulting in 316bhp, a 0-62mph of just 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 155mph.
A seven-speed DSG auto sends power to all four wheels and VW’s newest version of the 4Motion four-wheel-drive system that includes a torque-vectoring function on the rear axle can separately adapt the amount of drive sent to each rear wheel.
The Tiguan R comes in three drive modes that each alter its driving capabilities. Sport is the default mode, but by using buttons on the steering wheel, you can opt for ‘Comfort’ mode or shift up into the Tiguan’s most aggressive mode by pressing the ‘R’ button.
In its highest tier driving mode, this car will be able to turn corners with pinpoint accuracy and have razor-sharp acceleration. Far superior driving to that of the standard Tiguan.
Visually this vehicle does of course share similarities with the rest of the Tiguan line-up. A unique looking front bumper and 19” wheels are some notable features that sets it apart.
The interior features some upgrades too. A new stylish infotainment screen supporting of wireless Apple CarPlay and live traffic data with a touch-sensitive climate control panel. The car in general is very spacious with plenty of room to stretch your legs with a generous boot storage capacity.
With all things considered, The new Volkswagen R will be a highly competitive performance SUV with some serious stopping power. Definitely worth considering if you're looking for an elite SUV this year.
