The Porsche 356, which arrived in June 1948, has been reinterpreted into the Vision 357 in 2023 with similar styling and proportions.
This latest concept from the luxury German carmaker is incredibly sleek and streamlined. There are no protruding door handles and minimalist cameras replace clunky side mirrors.
The windscreen wraps around the A-pillars and the sloping roofline transitions seamlessly into a vertical grille that continues down towards the exhausts.
Porsche has used the 357 as an opportunity to experiment and develop its design language. This can be seen in the celebrative concept’s light signature, where its headlights have been hidden beneath ring-shaped perforations in the body panel so that the car’s smooth aesthetics can continue from front to back.
The car aims to combine elements of the past, present and future into a single model that fully represents Porsche’s design DNA.
Underneath its body sits the powertrain of a 718 Cayman GT4 RS that includes a 4.0-litre, 493bhp, six-cylinder engine. Porsche design boss, Michael Maur, confirmed that the Vision 357 has a realistic base and proportions close to reality.
However, despite its eye-catching looks, the Vision 357 is unlikely to become a production model and simply serves as a celebration and experimentation of Porsche’s design language up until this point in its history.
