Volkswagen has launched the new ID.3 Neo in the UK, giving its popular electric hatchback a major update inside and out.
The successor to the original Volkswagen ID.3, the new ID.3 Neo introduces a redesigned interior, updated technology, new battery options and significantly improved range – with the largest battery capable of travelling up to 390 miles on a single charge.
Starting from £33,080 (£31,580 with the electric car grant), the ID.3 Neo is Volkswagen's latest attempt to make its electric hatchback a stronger alternative to models such as the Kia EV3, Hyundai Kona Electric and BYD Dolphin.

A fresh new look for the ID.3
The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo introduces a new design direction for Volkswagen's electric cars.
While the basic proportions of the ID.3 remain familiar, the Neo receives a significantly revised exterior with a cleaner and more confident appearance.
At the front, a new full-width light bar connects the headlights, while higher-specification models feature an illuminated Volkswagen badge. The black roof and tailgate treatment of the previous ID.3 has also been removed, creating a more streamlined appearance.
The changes are part of Volkswagen's new "Pure Positive" design language, which will also influence other upcoming models in the ID range.
A completely redesigned interior
One of the biggest changes can be found inside the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo.
Volkswagen has listened to feedback from owners of the original ID.3 and introduced a much more conventional cabin, with an emphasis on improved usability and higher-quality materials.
A new 10.25-inch digital driver's display sits behind the steering wheel, while a larger 12.9-inch touchscreen takes centre stage on the dashboard.
Perhaps the most noticeable change is the return of physical buttons.
The ID.3 Neo features physical controls beneath the central touchscreen, along with conventional buttons on the steering wheel. This replaces some of the touch-sensitive controls that proved unpopular with owners of the original ID.3.
The centre console also includes additional storage, wireless smartphone charging and a rotary volume control.
For a fun touch, Volkswagen has even included a selectable retro display inspired by the instrument cluster of the original Volkswagen Golf.
Up to 390 miles of electric range
The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo is available with three battery sizes:
- 50kWh – up to 258 miles WLTP
- 58kWh – up to 306 miles WLTP
- 79kWh – up to 390 miles WLTP
That makes the largest-battery ID.3 Neo one of the longest-range electric hatchbacks available in the UK.
The 50kWh and 58kWh versions use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, while the larger 79kWh battery uses nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) chemistry.
The different battery options mean buyers can choose between a lower purchase price and longer-range capability depending on their needs.
Faster charging
The ID.3 Neo has also been developed with improved charging capability.
The 50kWh and 58kWh versions support DC rapid charging at up to 105kW, while the 79kWh model can charge at up to 183kW.
Volkswagen quotes charging times of approximately:
- 50kWh: 10–80% in around 24 minutes
- 58kWh: 10–80% in around 26 minutes
- 79kWh: 10–80% in around 29 minutes
The ID.3 Neo also supports 11kW AC charging for home and workplace charging.
With the larger battery and 183kW maximum DC charging rate, the 79kWh version is particularly well suited to longer journeys where minimising charging stops is important.
How quick is the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo?
The ID.3 Neo is available with a choice of rear-mounted electric motors depending on the battery and specification.
Volkswagen quotes the following 0–62mph times:
- 50kWh: 168bhp, 0–62mph in 8.6 seconds
- 58kWh: 187bhp, 0–62mph in 8.0 seconds
- 79kWh: 228bhp, 0–62mph in 7.1 seconds
Volkswagen has also confirmed that an even sportier ID.3 GTI is on the way, with the performance-focused model due to be unveiled in September 2026.
Volkswagen ID.3 Neo trims
The ID.3 Neo is available in three UK specifications: Life, Style and Style Launch Edition.
The entry-level Life comes with a generous amount of standard equipment, including 18-inch alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, dual-zone climate control, the 10.25-inch driver's display and 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The Style trim adds features including 19-inch alloy wheels, LED Matrix headlights, a front light bar, LED rear lights, a heated steering wheel, sports seats, a heat pump, upgraded upholstery, privacy glass and ambient lighting.
The limited-run Style Launch Edition sits at the top of the launch range and adds even more technology, including a 360-degree camera, head-up display, electric massage seats, semi-autonomous driving functionality and a panoramic glass sunroof.
Volkswagen ID.3 Neo price
The new Volkswagen ID.3 Neo starts from £31,580 in the UK, including the £1,500 Electric Car Grant.
There are three versions available, with the Life starting from £31,580, while the Style starts from £35,495. A limited-run Style Launch Edition is also available from £38,250.
The ID.3 Neo therefore sits competitively alongside other electric hatchbacks and compact EVs, while offering a choice of battery sizes, generous standard equipment and up to 390 miles of WLTP range.
