I had the incredible opportunity to travel to China as a guest of BYD, joining peers from the UK’s biggest leasing partners on an immersive experience showcasing the innovation, scale, and spirit behind the world’s number one new energy vehicle (NEV) brand.
Over three full days, I explored cutting-edge facilities, experienced the latest electric vehicles first-hand, and gained a fascinating insight into how BYD is shaping the future of sustainable mobility.

Behind the scenes at BYD’s Super Factory
Our journey began in Zhengzhou at the vast BYD Zhengzhou Factory – one of the world’s largest and most advanced electric vehicle production bases. The scale was astonishing: this single facility can produce around one million vehicles annually, with a new car rolling off the line every minute.
We also toured the Battery Factory, home to BYD’s pioneering Blade Battery technology. Seeing the precision and efficiency of these operations up close really brought BYD’s focus on technology and innovation to life.

Experiencing innovation on the track
That afternoon, we travelled to the BYD Zhengzhou Circuit – a purpose-built test facility designed for showcasing performance, safety, and control. After a short briefing, we headed trackside to experience some of BYD’s most dynamic models in action.
The standout moment was the Denza Z9 GT, a sleek and powerful electric saloon featuring BYD’s innovative crab walk technology and advanced vehicle motion control system. Designed to maintain stability even during simulated high-speed tyre blowouts, it was a striking demonstration of just how far electric performance has evolved.
Another highlight was getting to see the Yangwang U8, BYD’s luxury off-roader, perform while fully submerged in water. It perfectly captured BYD’s bold approach to redefining what electric vehicles can do.

Exploring future technology at BYD Di-Space
The next morning, we visited BYD Di-Space – a vast four-storey innovation hub in Zhengzhou’s business district showcasing more than 300 exhibits dedicated to the past, present, and future of sustainable transport.

Walking through the displays, we saw scale models and concept versions of BYD’s most exciting vehicles, including the Denza D9, BYD Seal, and Yangwang U8. It offered a fascinating glimpse into how design, engineering, and environmental responsibility come together under one roof.
After lunch, we headed to the airport for our flight to Shenzhen, where we would continue our BYD journey. That evening, we arrived at the Shenzhen Marriott Hotel Golden Bay, where BYD hosted a networking dinner complete with traditional food and drinks. It was the perfect introduction to BYD’s home city.

A journey through BYD’s past, present, and future
Our final full day began at the BYD History Museum, located at the company’s original headquarters site in Shenzhen. The museum tells BYD’s 30-year story, from its early days as a battery manufacturer to becoming a global leader in electric vehicles.
One of my favourite moments was sitting behind a recreation of founder Wang Chuanfu’s original desk. It was a simple but powerful reminder of how far the company has come.

Lunch took place in BYD’s main boardroom at their headquarters – an incredible oval room where global meetings and major negotiations are held. Seeing it in person was unbelievable, a truly impressive space that reflects BYD’s international presence and ambition.
Later, we toured BYD’s Safety, EMC, and NVH laboratories, which focus on vehicle safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and refinement. Photography wasn’t allowed, but it was captivating to see the depth of research and precision that underpin BYD’s engineering standards.
Throughout the day, we caught a glimpse of some remarkable vehicles – including the upcoming BYD Shark 6, due for its UK launch in 2026, and the Yangwang U9, which is currently the fastest production car in the world.
The day concluded with a cocktail reception, a fitting celebration of an inspiring week of discovery.

Reflections on an unforgettable experience
I had an amazing time in China and was blown away by the hospitality throughout the trip. Every meal showcased China’s rich culinary culture and created a real sense of connection and warmth among everyone there.

This trip was far more than a factory tour – it was a chance to experience the innovation, culture, and purpose behind BYD’s mission to create a more sustainable future. From the precision of their manufacturing to the creativity driving their research and design, every part of the journey reflected a brand pushing boundaries for all the right reasons.
What struck me most was the sheer scale of BYD’s operation – from vast production lines to research facilities filled with cutting-edge battery and safety technology. Seeing it all first-hand gave me complete confidence that BYD isn’t just another new name entering the UK market, but a well-established global leader with decades of expertise behind every vehicle they build.
For UK drivers considering an electric car, that’s something worth knowing. BYD’s cars may be new to our roads, but the company behind them is anything but new. Having witnessed their innovation and professionalism up close, I’m certain that customers here can buy and lease a BYD with absolute confidence.
It was a privilege to represent Jurni Leasing on this visit and to see first-hand how BYD is redefining what’s possible in electric mobility. I came away inspired, informed, and genuinely excited for what the future holds for BYD here in the UK.
