The Tesla Model Y has been refreshed for 2025 and features many enhancements over the previous model. This article compares the old and new Model Y, focusing on the design, interior, performance, and pricing.
Exterior design
While the Tesla Model Y’s soap-like silhouette remains, the 2025 model’s exterior has received a number of updates.
The front end now features slimmer, more angular headlights, giving the car a more aggressive appearance. Stylish full-width lightbars have also been introduced at the front and rear, replacing the old model's traditional light clusters.
The 2025 Model Y has new aerodynamic wheels too, and a slightly longer body to improve efficiency. Overall, Tesla’s exterior updates have given the Model Y a more modern aesthetic that’s in keeping with the latest electric vehicles (EVs) from Kia and Volkswagen.
Interior & tech
Inside, the 2025 Tesla Model Y sticks with its minimalist styling and huge 15.4-inch touchscreen but introduces several upgrades to comfort and convenience.
Rear passengers now benefit from an 8-inch touchscreen, allowing control over climate settings and media. This is a welcome addition for families and those who often carry passengers in the back.
The new Model Y now has wraparound ambient lighting in the dashboard. This feature was first introduced on the Model 3 and lets drivers adjust the interior atmosphere through a selection of colours.
The cabin also has more soft-touch materials than before and the front seats gain ventilated cooling, helping to improve comfort in the summer months.
Performance & range
The 2025 Tesla Model Y introduces subtle enhancements in both performance and efficiency across its lineup.
The entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive variant now has a 311-mile range, up from 283 miles, and a 5.6-second 0-60mph. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive delivers an impressive 387-mile range, 14 miles more than before, and a swift 5.4-second 0-60mph.
The Long Range All-Wheel Drive adds a front motor for improved traction and power, this decreases the range to 364 miles but improves acceleration for a rapid 4.6-second 0-60mph time.
At the top of the lineup is the Launch Edition which retains the same powertrain and battery pack as the previous Dual Motor Model Y but now delivers 353 miles of range - a 22-mile improvement. It’s also the quickest variant, completing 0-60mph in just 4.1 seconds.
Pricing and availability
The entry-level 2025 Tesla Model Y costs £44,990, while the Long Range Rear-Wheel costs £48,990 - that's a £2,000 increase over the old variant. The Long Range All-Wheel Drive costs £51,990 and the Launch Series costs £60,990.
Orders for the 2025 Tesla Model Y are now open, with the first UK deliveries expected in June 2025.
