Renault will revive another classic name as part of a major overhaul of its commercial vehicle lineup. The Renault Estafette Concept is a modern take on the iconic Estafette van, which the French manufacturer made between 1959 and 1980.
This new version pays tribute to the classic’s design and features a fully electric powertrain, aimed to cater to urban deliveries and small businesses.
The concept has been created under the Flexis group, which is a joint venture between Renault and Volvo.

Exterior & styling
Outside, the design echoes the original van with its boxy silhouette, circular headlights and split windscreen, while modern touches like LED lighting and a clean, minimalist finish bring it up to date.
Renault aims to brighten up European city streets with an "expressive" and "endearing" design that contrasts against the more aggressive-looking diesel vans on the road today.
The concept’s dimensions (4870mm x 1920mm) are close to the Renault Kangoo’s, though the Estafette Concept stands taller at 2590mm versus 1850mm, allowing the driver to easily move between the cabin and cargo area.
The Estafette’s compact size gives the van a tight turning circle similar to the Renault Clio, while its tall height provides a large load capacity similar to the Renault Trafic.
Interior & tech
Inside, the Estafette Concept is designed with functionality in mind. It boasts a spacious cargo area with a low loading height and wide doors, perfect for businesses needing to load and unload quickly in busy city settings.
The driving position offers excellent visibility, and the dashboard maintains a clean, retro-modern look. Pocket sliding side doors open in one smooth motion, saving time and reducing strain for drivers making frequent stops.
In terms of tech, the Estafette Concept is expected to feature advanced connectivity and driver assistance systems to help businesses manage their fleets more efficiently.
While specifics haven’t been confirmed, Renault’s other electric vans already offer route planning based on battery levels and energy usage, so similar capabilities are expected here.
The Estafette is also Renault’s first vehicle built with software-defined vehicle (SDV) architecture, meaning it's directly connected to the cloud, enabling continuous updates and new services throughout its lifecycle. This system learns user habits and can help reduce running costs by around 30%.
Batteries & charging
The Estafette Concept’s electric powertrain is built for city use. Although Renault hasn’t revealed the full technical details, the range is expected to support daily urban deliveries, with easy-to-use charging options available for quick top-ups during the day.
Given Renault's experience with electric vehicles, the Estafette Concept is likely to incorporate some of the technology found in models like the Kangoo E-Tech.
Release date
Renault’s decision to bring back the Estafette name aligns with an industry trend where automakers are revisiting their heritage to introduce new electric models.
Like the Renault 4 and 5, a production version of the Estafette Concept is confirmed, with a launch expected in 2026.
