Since 2019, Smart has operated as a joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and the Chinese manufacturer Geely. The marque was originally founded in 1994 and was a German car manufacturing division of Mercedes-Benz.

Smart’s first car launched in 1998 and its first electric car was released worldwide in 2009. The Fortwo and Forfour models have emerged as the brand's top sellers, cherished for their suitability in urban environments.

Smart released its first SUV with the Hashtag 1. This electric vehicle retains the brand's distinctive style and character, marking a new chapter in the journey of this German-Chinese partnership.
