The Renault 4 E-Tech has been officially unveiled at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. It’s the latest in a long line of old names that the brand has electrified in recent years, following the Renault 5, Megane, Scenic, Twingo and Estafette.
How big is the Renault 4?
The new Renault 4 is a compact SUV designed to compete with models like the Citroen e-C3, Vauxhall Mokka, and Peugeot E-2008.
Built on the same AmpR Small platform as the Renault 5, it offers greater practicality than its sibling. Measuring 4,140mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,570mm in height, the Renault 4 provides ample space for both passengers and cargo.
The boot offers a spacious 420 litres, which expands to 1,400 litres when the rear seats are folded, making it perfect for those in need of a versatile, everyday electric vehicle.
What does the Renault 4 look like?
The design of the Renault 4 blends contemporary elements with modern styling while incorporating several nods to the classic model.
Its new one-piece illuminated front grille highlights the iconic round headlights, with the bonnet line extending beyond the grille. The rear quarter window retains its familiar shape, and sculpted door lines echo the original's plastic protectors.
The new Renault 4’s overall stance mirrors its predecessor’s, featuring a flat front, upright posture, and short overhangs. For added flair, customers can choose to add a retro canvas sunroof.
What does the Renault 4’s interior look like?
Inside, the Renault 4 offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, enhanced by a 2,620mm wheelbase and soft, durable fabrics.
The interior layout feels both modern and user-friendly, with two digital displays, including a 10-inch Google-based infotainment system that forms the heart of the dashboard. Below, physical controls for climate adjustments ensure ease of use while driving.
Passengers will appreciate the convenience of USB-C ports in both the front and rear for charging devices. Renault has even included a baguette holder that clips onto the centre console, adding a touch of French flair to the driving experience.
What is the Renault 4’s range?
The Renault 4 will be offered in the same 40kWh and 52kWh batteries as the Renault 5. This gives the EV a range of up to 249 miles.
The 4 will be the first in Renault’s lineup to feature one-pedal driving, a setting that maximises the car’s regenerative braking.
Charging from 15-80% can be completed in just 30 minutes. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging is also supported, and heat pumps are equipped on both powertrains.
How fast is the Renault 4?
The entry-level Renault 4 E-Tech comes with a modest 118bhp and front-wheel drive. If you opt for the Comfort derivative, you’ll get a more powerful 148bhp electric motor for a respectable 8.5-second 0-62mph sprint time.
How much will the Renault 4 cost?
Official pricing is yet to be announced, but we do know that the Renault 4 will sit somewhere between the Renault 5 and the Renault Magane. This means a starting price of around £27,000 is likely.
When will the Renault 4 go on sale?
Production on the Renault 4 will begin in March 2025, with cars hitting roads in the summer. The EV will be built alongside the Renault 5 in northern France at the brand’s Maubeuge factory.
